Egerton University Hospital is a busy campus facility providing services to a large student and neighboring community population. Before GSN’s support, the facility only offered voluntary HIV counselling and testing at one point at start of engagement. Individuals seeking out-patient treatment or identified in the wards were not routinely offered care and treatment services. This resulted in many lost opportunities to link HIV-infected clients to care and treatment. With GSN support and technical assistance a staff at the facility can now offer provider-initiated testing at multiple points of patient contact, significantly increasing uptake of HIV testing and counselling, initiation of the required care and treatment interventions for those infected and on-going monitoring of response to treatment. Through capacity building and linkage to the KEMSA commodity supply chain, required commodities have been secured.
