As the name of the project suggests, the goal is to improve access to quality, client-centered and linked health care services that include family planning and reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent services. Afya Uzazi is a Swahili combination of words that mean “healthy parenthood”. The project’s work is focused in Baringo and Nakuru counties in Kenya. Key elements include an emphasis on youth and gender interventions, a rights-based approach, data-driven decision-making and sustainability.

In 2018, GS Kenya was awarded a three year SBCC for FP/RMNCAH sub award under Afya Uzazi Project operating in 6 sub counties spread in Nakuru and Baringo counties. This project uses existing projects and resources from the consortium partners as a platform to scale up innovative, evidence-based practices to improve and expand the delivery of health services. It will also pilot and scale up integrated development approaches that expand access to services, including population, health and environment interventions. Afya Uzazi emphasizes strong coordination and collaboration among health facilities and community-based initiatives.
